Kenya Home Page
In late 2021 I was presented with an exceptional opportunity to visit the East African country of Kenya in the fall of 2022. I had been wanting to travel to Africa for some time to experience wildlife photography, as it is very different from my traditional large format black and white landscape work. The techniques and photographic opportunities are quite different between these two genres. My black and white landscape work utilizes a 4x5 view camera, is very methodical, and a single exposure can easily take up to one hour (or longer depending on lighting conditions) from set up to take down of the equipment. Wildlife photography requires rapid action and quick reflexes.
The camera used on this trip was a Fuji GFX 100S medium format digital camera. The lenses used were a 32-64mm zoom, a 110mm fixed prime, and a 250mm fixed telephoto. Most of the photographs were taken within the confines of a Toyota Land Cruiser as it is unlawful to exit the vehicle in the protected reserves. Nearly 2900 captures were taken during the trip. The photographs on the ensuing pages are what I consider to be my favorites from the many safaris undertaken during the trip.
My hope is that one will enjoy the Kenya portfolio. It is divided into four sections, consisting of three wildlife pages, one birding page, one landscape page, and an acknowledgement page for two people to whom I will be forever grateful.
